Lambeth Country Show started in 1974 and is the most eccentric South London/Brixton event ever. It is a wonderful cultural mash up of an English Summer Fete with cake competitions, sheep shearing, flower show and the unforgettable vegetable sculpture competition, combined with a music festival featuring local artists and top Reggae performers such as Aswad and Luciano. It has been a highlight of my social calender since the 1980’s and is a great way of bringing the whole community together to dance, eat and enjoy each others company. Very sadly it has been cancelled for the first time in over 50 years! I really hope it returns in 2027 as the UK needs events like this now more than ever. I have populated this painting with my friends and family who I have partied with over the Years. I chose Aswad as the headliner as I have seen them live many times starting with their Glastonbury appearance in 1981.
